“Many people come to yoga having never received a bit of validation for their physical abilities. While those around them are called ath
letes, they are called other things. The labels become internalized and eventually a sad thing happens. The “Klutz” simply gives up on her or his body, and the negative belief becomes the reality…..Once we commit ourselves to any sort of physical discipline, change is not only possible, it is inevitable. Life is not static. We do not have to accept the pronouncements made upon us twenty, thirty, forty years ago. Coordination, like any other skill, must be learned, refined, honed, and practiced, and that is just what we are doing on the yoga mat….So come into the moment, let go of the past, free your body, free your mind, free your heart – and allow grace to happen.” ~ Rolf Gates~
How do I get started?
Simply show up! The first class you take with Rancho Cordova yoga is always FREE. We will support, guide and encourage you as you discover your relationship with your self and yoga.
Which classes should I attend?
Our classes are All-Levels Yoga. In the All-Levesl classes, options and modifications are offered to accommodate beginner-intermediate level students. We recommend introducing yourself to your instructor and sharing your path–especially if you are brand new to yoga or if it has been a while.
Is there anything particular for beginners?
Yes! We offer a Yoga Fundamentals Workshop through our partnership with Cordova Parks and Recreation (CRPD).
What’s covered in the Yoga Yoga Fundamentals Workshop?
The Yoga Fundamentals workshop is an integrated and interactive workshop that takes place over three weeks. It’s designed to provide you with a strong foundation so you feel safe and confident in any yoga class.
You will Explore:
- What is Yoga?
- Answers to frequently asked questions and misconceptions
- Pranayma (Breathing techniques) used to help calm the mind both on and off the mat
- Instruction on how to combine yogic breath with movement and alignment details that will help you to safely and enjoyably practice Vinyasa Flow and/or Yin/Yang Yoga.
“When I first began yoga I put myself in the category of ‘not flexible enough, not thin enough and not strong enough’ to do it the “way” the teacher was doing…but after a few months of attending class, I began noticing changes in my body and my perspective and I continue to notice these changes on a daily basis hence I continue to practice on a daily basis. “ ~Kate McKinney, Teacher, Rancho Cordova Yoga~
